Between the Nineteen Seventies and 1990s, American terrorist Ted Kaczynski carried out a series of bombings across America and printed the Unabomber Manifesto denouncing technology’s adverse impacts on nature and human freedom. It was partly inspired by Jacques Ellul’s The Technological Society. The earliest known revolt towards technology was Luddism, a pushback against early automation in textile production. Automation had resulted in a need for fewer staff, a process known as technological unemployment.
